If your makeup starts to slip during the day then you and your setting powder are probably already best friends. But, have you ever tried applying it BEFORE the rest of your makeup. If you’ve searched high and low for a better primer or mattifying foundation with no joy then you might want to switch up the order you apply everything. Now huns, this is nothing new – many MUAs have been raving about this for a while and it exploded on TikTok a couple of years ago. However, let’s get into applying your setting powder and then your foundation if you missed it first time round…

What skin type is it best for?

The great news is that this is perfect if you have oily skin because the powder is controlling excess oil from the jump. So if you’re going to be on the go all day or on holiday this could be for you. That’s not to say you can’t try this method if you don’t have oily skin, give it a go and see how it turns out.

What should I do first?

Cleanse, tone and moisturise just as you normally would. Never neglect this step and you still need a clean base to work from.

Time for the powder

It’s up to you where you put the setting powder, you can go for all over your face or just the oily areas. Let the powder ‘bake’ much like you would if you were setting under your eyes or contour after foundation and highlighter. Here’s some fine powders that’ll work a treat for this step.

Apply the rest of your make up and finish with a setting spray

Go in with your favourite foundation, concealer, highlighter – whatever your makeup routine, stick to it! I recommend a setting spray to hold all that perfection together.
