Natural hair is diverse, with a great deal of time spent on which products to use. From YouTube to social media and blog posts, there is so much information and recommendations now at your fingertips. As someone who has spent countless hours on YouTube watching reviews and scouring the internet for products, I know it is a trial-and-error process.

With trying multiple hair products especially over the last 2 years, there are just some products that have left a great impression on me. In honour of Black History Month, here are 8 Black-owned hair products I believe you need to try.

Sienna Naturals H.A.P.I Shampoo

Gently cleansers for the win! I cleanse my hair at least once a week so I love using gentle cleansers and Sienna’s H.A.P.I Shampoo is a great option. A little goes a long way, it lathers well and removes build-up all while keeping my hair moisturised after rinsing out. If you use light to medium-weight products regularly then this shampoo can be your new staple.

Bask and Bloom Gentle Herbal Cleanser

Continuing with gentle cleansers, this sulfate-free herbal one from Bask and Bloom is definitely one of my faves. It has an applicator tip which makes applying directly on the scalp a lot easier plus it lathers super quick and gets my hair clean.

Tréluxe Curl Renew & Restore Gentle Cleansing Rinse

This is my favourite black-owned cleanser! I have the slippery elm extract and aloe vera to thank for all the slip this cleanser provides. It so gently cleanses my hair and scalp leaving it clean and moisturised. This cleansing rinse is perfect for those quick wash days.

Mielle Babassu and Mint Deep Conditioner

This deep conditioner has a crazy amount of slip and will have your tangles melted in no time. It’s also great for persons who are protein sensitive as this protein + moisture balance leans more to its moisture complex. The mint is quite strong and will leave your scalp feeling refreshed. Try this one out for your next deep conditioning session.

BeautyNest By AF Bring Me Back to Life 3 in 1 Hydrating Hair Deep Conditioner

I’m beyond excited about this gem of a deep conditioner from a small business I tried. It includes marshmallow root (one of my favourite ingredients) which makes it super moisturising. This 3 in 1 deep conditioner has the perfect “not too thick, not too runny” consistency which is full of slip. It makes detangling a breeze and rinses out to leave my hair super hydrated. I cannot recommend this one enough!

Miche Lavish Leave In Conditioning Styler

This mediumweight leave-in always gets my hair right. It has a pump which I prefer on leave-ins, and applying it to my hair instantly has my hair feeling more manageable and moisturised. It also has detangling properties that makes my brush glide through my hair. I’m left with replenished curls which makes this one of my go-to leave in conditioners.

Eden Bodyworks Hibiscus Honey Blow Dry Cream

Before blow drying, I use a heat protectant always! This blow dry cream is moisturising enough for me to skip my leave in conditioner and lightweight enough for my hair to look and feel light & airy after the blow dry. A little also goes a long way so this will last a really long time even if you blow dry your hair more often.

Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream

My wash and gos tend to turn out better with a cream and gel combo and that’s exactly what I like the curly curl cream for. It’s a thick cream that gives my natural hair some definition before I add gel. I find that it pairs well with most gels so I don’t get flaking, now that’s a win!
