We all love a good brown lip pencil to compliment our favourite lip combos, but finding the perfect shade and tone for your desired look can sometimes prove harder than it seems. As a makeup artist, I have trialed and errored with many different brands, shades, and textures both on myself and on my clients. I’m a serial lover of brown lip pencils and believe you can never have too many options!
Here are a few I couldn’t possibly live without.
“MAC lip pencils were the first liners I ever officially used more than 8 years ago and my life has been changed ever since. If you’re an avid brown lip pencil lover, you will have come across at least one of the above options and they do not disappoint! They have a smooth, creamy texture that is perfect for outlining, shaping, and filling in your lips.“

Morphe Lip Pencil
“I came across Morphe lip pencils 2 years ago, whilst on a hunt for a dupe for my beloved “MAC – Chestnut”. I’ve come across many brands that just didn’t cut it, but the pigment, orange and brown shades offered by Morphe, work wonders for a range of deeper skin tones. The pencils are smooth, yet sturdy and glide on easily to line and accentuate your lip shape. And let’s talk about the price point – £4 for a quality brown lip pencil, you truly cannot go wrong! I love stocking up on these for myself and my kit!“

Charlotte Tilburry Lip Pencil
“I love how luxury and effortless the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat feels when applying it. The texture is velvety and the pigment is rich, which is perfect for the deepest of skin tones. I love comparing different brown lip pencils to ensure that I have the best and a range that will work well on a spectrum of deeper skin tones, and not just the medium-dark region. I know that it can be a challenge, especially with deeper skin tones, to find a brown lip pencil that shows up, compliments the skin, and works well with all shades of lipstick. Whether you prefer a subtle lip line or that 90’s deep brown liner look for a fuller pout, you will love the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat liners!”

Kiko Milano Lip Liner
“I have personally used and seen the “321 – Brown” lip pencil used countless amounts of times amongst brown and black girls. It seemed like the best-kept secret for a while, but it has truly made its mark amongst the brown lip pencil community and it really does its job. I love that these pencils glide on effortlessly, are transfer-resistant and waterproof, so you almost never need to worry about topping up your liner throughout the day. If you have a medium-dark complexion and prefer cooler brown tones, the “425 – Brown” lip pencil is a must.“
