Let’s face the holidays can be stressful; if you’re the hostess with you most, you have to account for the food, the entertainment and the ambience, and even if you aren’t serving family and friends, turning your home into a festive haven can be stressful. Not for you to worry, loves; we’re here to take away any stress and endless hours of home decor scrolling or flicking through your Pinterest saves, as we’re sharing our favourite ways for decorating the home for the holidays. Thinks wreaths, candles, and soft furnishings will turn your abode into a sophisticated holiday grotto, no matter the budget.
Wreaths
No matter your style, whether maximalist with florals and pine cones or Scandi with lights, wreaths can make an excellent addition to your home, regardless of the size. Hung on your door with command strips, on the back of your dining chairs, as a dining table centrepiece or added to your front door, wreaths are a subtle nod to the festive cheer.
Christmas Trees
Real or artificial, is it Christmas until you have a tree in your home? Again it’s down to your styling and colour choice, but it’s one way to play with a theme that you also necessarily wouldn’t add as a permanent styling choice in your home. It’s also not always about size; play with what works in your space; whether a 3ft tree on a desk or an 8ft tree standing grand in an entryway or living room, you have scope to play with.
TIP: If you’re buying a real tree, ensure you water the base to keep it fresher for longer.
Some favourite places for decorations: John Lewis, The Pampas Collection, Zara Home, Home Sense, TK Maxx, Selfridges and Harrods.
Garlands
Garlands, like wreaths, can be a beautiful way of decorating your home, especially those pieces of furniture that can do with a seasonal update. Try to place a garland along your console table, bannisters, and around doorways to bring a seasonal shift to other areas of your home.
Table settings
Effective but often overlooked is getting your table settings holiday ready. Do you carry your Christmas tree colour theme to the dining table or completely contrast your colour choices? The options are endless, so you can play with tablecloths, napkins, napkin ring holders and place settings to magnify the holiday spirit.

Candles
Is it even the holiday season without scented candles to layer your rooms? The White Company’s Fir Tree or Diptyque’s 34? Either way, scent the holidays through the air by adding a cosy and festive layer to your home. If you want to take things further, match it with a room spray to spritz when necessary.
Soft furnishings
Your cushions, blankets, and bedroom throws can all appreciate a little holiday spirit, so swapping out your colours to play into the holiday season is a fantastic way to say ‘Happy Holidays’ without going overboard.
