False eyelashes are a quick and easy way to elevate any makeup look but applying them can be challenging, especially when you haven’t worn them before. When I was learning how to apply them, I turned to YouTube and a few how-to articles but I still had no success. After a few attempts, I got there in the end with an application method that worked for me. There are people who make applying false eyelashes look really easy but the reality is that you shouldn’t expect to apply them perfectly on your first go, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself and don’t try and put them on when you’re in a hurry. If I could give two pieces of advice to anyone who is applying false eyelashes for the first time, I would say invest in a pack of cheap lashes from Ebay or Amazon that you can practice with first and don’t give up – practice really does make perfect!
If you are a lash enthusiast who is determined to put on lashes in the right way, Delashed London are spilling their best lash application tips. Keep reading to learn how to apply false eyelashes like a pro!
Before you do anything, you’ll need to identify your eye shape to know which lash styles would fit your eye shape and size. If you have round eyes, you can wear most lash styles but if you have hooded eyes, you should opt for lashes with a longer length at the centre as they open up the eyes a bit more. Cat eye lashes or lashes with a longer length on the outer edge are perfect for upturned eyes and anyone with downturned eyes should opt for lashes with a gradual flare on the outer corner for a lifting effect. A spiky or fluttery style would also work.
If you can’t settle on a particular style, then we recommend looking for shorter, lightweight and subtle lashes with a flexible band as these are much lighter on the eye and will feel comfortable for someone who is not used to wearing false eyelashes.
How to apply false eyelashes
– Carefully remove the lash from the lash tray using tweezers or an applicator
– Measure the strip lash to your eye then trim from the outer edge to fit your eye (do not trim from the inner edge)
– Apply a thin layer of lash adhesive to the lash band and allow the adhesive to get tacky for 30-60 seconds before applying the lashes. Beginners should consider opting for a reliable, high-quality, clear tone brush-on lash adhesive. The brush-on applicator makes it easier to apply a thin layer of glue to the lash band. If you have sensitive and watery eyes or you wear contacts, we recommend using a latex free eyelash adhesive.
– Apply the lash as close to the natural lash line as possible and press it down into place starting with the centre of the eye. It’s easier to start with the middle. If you start with the corners first, it could lead to a misaligned eyelash.
– Look down into a mirror when applying lashes and do not close your eyes – this will leave more room to get the false lashes closer to your natural lash line.
– Adjust the lash and press the inner and outer corner down until they both sit securely on the lash line. For lashes to be secure, the glue has to be set and no visible gaps will be seen between the false lashes and the natural lash line.
If you want to take your lash game to the next level, you can curl your lashes with an eyelash curler or apply mascara to your own lashes first. When you remove your false eyelashes, remember to store them back in their tray to preserve its shape and guarantee longer use.
