I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to make a few swift changes to my fragrance wardrobe when a new season hits the air. Don’t get me wrong, the fragrance is personal, and you can spritz whatever you want, regardless of the season. But something about Autumn/Winter screams warmth, cosy and layering. In the summer, you may have been reaching for your light and fresh florals or spritzing a sweet and fruity blend reminiscent of the Mediterranean but turning to the colder months, you may be intrigued by a deeper, richer and warmer scent myriad.
A scent aroma that will be captivating this season is Oud, both an aromatic and complex scent; it is incredibly seductive and intense. Between light and dry twist and a sweet and warm blend, oud is a colder month staple to heat and heighten the senses. If you like stronger scents, drawing deeper towards leather and earthy scent like Saffron may be your seasonal hit. Finding a saffron scent is the most expensive and rarest ingredient in the world; it can be a luxury experience – only needing a touch, douse your skin in its sweet but leather-like accord.
If you’re drawn to scents like Byredo Sellier, Maison Margiela Replica By The Fireplace, or Kayali Invite Only Amber 23; then you’re a fan of Ambree scents. Think sandalwood, musk and spice and vanilla. They sensually linger on the skin, smell warm, heavy and rich, and can even drift toward the woody family. However, if Floral is your ultimate fragrance family of choice, you can pull this away from the light aroma with scents grounded in fruits, ambrées or gourmand (good enough to eat, can you imagine!). Sticking to scents reminding us of food, expect to see a Spicy/Peppery overlay of fragrances this A/W. Notes of vetiver, citron, cedarwood and iris, they’ll pack nothing but a punch. But, to save you searching for your favourite, we’ve edited some of our favourites that deserve a spritz…
Maison Francis Kurkdjian
Oud Satin Mood eau de parfum
If you’re transfixed by Ambree scents, then you’ll love this. Playing with a sweet and warm accord, you will undoubtedly be pulled in by the floral rose and rich vanilla inspired by Oud wood.
Aqua Di Parma
Oud Eau de Parfum
Not an intimidating scent, this powerful fragrance by Acqua di Parma shows off why Oud will be trending for A/W. Rich and heady, it is layered with bergamot, orange and a rich leather accord which you will love the more you spray it.
Byredo
Black Saffron Eau De Parfum
This saffron-scented wonder might be the trick if the chic and minimal black bottle wasn’t enough of a lure. Warmed with vetiver and juniper berries, it perfectly carries the right amount of sweetness and the soft-earthy notes of saffron.
Guerlain
Tonka Impériale – Eau De Parfum
Bold and intense, this woody-ambre fragrance is autumn bottled. Hit with notes of almond, vanilla, a touch of powder and wefts of tonka bean, you couldn’t get a scent that is more described as Ambre than this. And you have the option to personalise this bottle, DIVINE.
Kilian
Good Girl Gone Bad Eau De Parfum
A scent that needs little to no introduction. If you’re not already familiar with this stunning creation, you will be by the end of this feature. This isn’t the floral you would think it is; grown up; it is the floral notes of rose, tuberose, jasmine and orange blossom sweetened with apricot. A fruity transition to florals.
Byredo
Night Veils Tobacco Mandarin Eau De Parfum
Warm and peppery, this scent blends mandarin orange, tobacco, leather, resin, oud wood and frankincense for a spiced and provocative blend. Little goes a long way and is the ideal comfort for the cold weather.
Jo Malone
Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne
The epitome of Autumn, this cult classic by Jo Malone is a hit for many. Woody and fresh, douse your skin in this and layer a cashmere jumper over the top, and you have yourself ready for the season.
