If you have low porosity hair, know what to clean it with can be difficult. The last thing you want to do is weigh down your hair with a shampoo and conditioner that’s too heavy.
What is low porosity hair?
It’s hair that doesn’t absorb water or treatments well. If your hair takes a long time to dry when wet and product you put it in tends to remain on the surface and not get absorbed, then it’s more than likely you have low porosity hair.
The ingredients you should look for
You want to look for things like glycerin, aloe vera and honey – these are all humectants that take moisture from the air and draw it into your hair. This will help to maintain moisture. Lightweight oils such as avocado or almond oil.
The ingredients you should avoid
Avoid protein-rich formulas. These can overload the hair and make it brittle. Along with sulphates and silicones and any heavy buttery products like cocoa butter.
